East Side Urban Studies: An Interdisciplinary Social Justice Unit set in Payne-Phalen

Log in to save this to your schedule and see who's attending!

This presentation shares the story of the creation of a whole-grade, interdisciplinary urban studies unit with a social justice focus around the local history, culture, and ecology of a neighborhood on St. Paul’s East Side. Participants will be introduced to the rationale and resources which were used in creating this unit with 7th graders at a suburban Twin Cities school. Participants will leave with ideas to construct their own unit exploring the ecology of an urban neighborhood, including the history of the peoples and cultures; the social, political, and economic infrastructure; and the human and institutional impact on the environment.
